Is Your Vehicle Chapter 8 Compliant?

Chapter 8 of The Department of Transport’s Traffic Signs Manual, isn’t yet legislation, but is considered best practice for vehicles stopping or being used for work on highways and high-speed roads. It’s an effective way to make you and your fleets safe, especially at night or in poor driving conditions.

Tunnicliffe Signs fit and supply full, partial and half kits, of hi-vis chevron vehicle markings.

Being Chapter 8 compliant includes:

• Hi-vis chevrons on the rear of the vehicle, alternating in yellow and red, measuring no less than 150mmand no more than 20mm in width. This should cover as much of the back end of the vehicle as is possible.

• Highway or motorway maintenance non-reflective signs on maintenance vehicles

• If the main body of vehicle isn’t a conspicuous colour, then 50mm markings of yellow micro-prismatic material need to run the length of the vehicle.

• Leading edges such as edge of doors and guardrails need to be marked with red retro-reflective strips.

• For vehicles over 7.5 tonnes, there must also be a directional arrow that incorporates flashing lights to supplement the message to keep left/right and rear marker chevron boards.

We provide a whole host of safety signs and markings, as well as vehicle signs, graphics and wraps.
